1. Before you start the bath, brush your puppy. This is because you want to detangle any matted hair which could lead to infections if they retain water.
2. The temperature of the water is important. Always use lukewarm water as hot water can damage your puppy’s skin.
3. Next, lift your puppy and gently place him in the body of water. Allow him to get accustomed to the temperature difference before you start scrubbing.
4. New puppies are prone to ear infections so do avoid getting water in his ears. You can achieve this by inserting a cotton ball in your puppy’s ears.
5. Use a dog shampoo: Dog shampoos have just the right pH for dogs. Lather accordingly and scrub gently either with a washcloth or a loofah.
6. Avoid pouring water directly on your puppy’s face when rinsing. Use a cloth and wipe gently.
7. Rinse well and make sure all the lather is out before patting dry with a towel.
8. Using a soothing voice, talk to your puppy while bathing him, this will make him less spooked.
9. Remember that your puppy is very fragile so you’ll need to be careful.
